A single-track road winding through the Welsh hills

The Triple Crown

All three. Eventually.

Four riders have now finished The Perfidious Albion, Wild West Country and Mountains of the Merfynion. Here’s to them, and to whoever is next.

How it started

A joke that got out of hand

The idea of a Triple Crown started as something riders whispered about at finish lines: who would be the first person to complete all three of our events? In 2025, we unashamedly jumped on the bandwagon and made it official.

It was never meant to be done in a single year. Now that The Perfidious Albion and Mountains of the Merfynion run in alternate years, it takes at least two. Finishing one of our events is an achievement in itself. Finishing all three takes stubbornness, patience and some very specific gearing.

The first

Paddy Cope

Paddy took the throne at Mountains of the Merfynion 2025, becoming the first rider to finish all three of our events.

He started as he meant to go on, finishing first at The Perfidious Albion in 2023. Two years later he came back for both of the others, riding Wild West Country in May and Mountains of the Merfynion in September.

Even then, it wasn’t straightforward. Paddy and Nathan Woodhouse were neck and neck into the second day of MOTM25, until a series of tyre issues cost him hours and eventually required a taxi to fetch more tubes. He pressed on regardless, arriving at Llwyn Celyn the following morning in second place and completing the set.

Completed it, 2025

The first rider to finish both of our road events, and a firm believer in riding from pub to pub. He tackled MOTM25 with what he cheerfully admitted was his first ever gravel ride.

  • Wild West Country 2023: 21st, 76 hrs 2 mins

The first pair to complete it, 2026

Better known to DotWatcher readers as J.Pox. They completed the set at MOTM26 despite a broken spoke, a detached crank arm and an unplanned descent off the wrong side of Hay Bluff.

  • The Perfidious Albion 2024: 1st pair, 158 hrs 29 mins
  • Wild West Country 2025: 1st pair, 63 hrs 15 mins
